Located on the west side of Dallas Executive Airport, the Burchfield Hangars are part of an 80,000-square-foot aviation complex developed by Burchfield & Partners in partnership with the City of Dallas. The development includes approximately 60,000 square feet of aircraft hangar space, along with offices, a fixed-base operator (FBO) terminal, and dedicated maintenance facilities. Operated by Jet Access, the complex provides aircraft storage, maintenance, and support services for the growing business and general aviation market in North Texas.
Working with A & F General Contractors and KH Architects, our team engineered and supplied metal building systems for two hangars and their adjoining office and service areas. The first hangar measures 200 feet wide by 139 feet long, while the second measures 230 feet wide by 139 feet long. Both structures feature 24-gauge AS-24 standing seam roofing, with 26-gauge PBR wall panels and architectural wall systems incorporated throughout the development. Our scope also included 7.2 panels, MBCI Masterline-16 wall panels, and A-12 soffit panels to accommodate the buildings’ varied exterior finishes and architectural features.
The project required specialized structural engineering to accommodate large aircraft and the equipment needed to maintain them. We provided framing for 140-foot and 160-foot-wide hangar door openings, each measuring 27 feet, 10 inches high, along with full-height interior liner panels and support framing for overhead mechanical equipment. The larger hangar also incorporates structural accommodations for a 3-ton underhung crane, including runway beams, bracing, and supporting steel members.
The adjoining office and service areas presented additional design requirements, including varied roof elevations, architectural parapets, mechanical screens, and a combination of metal wall panels and conventional exterior finishes. Our team provided structural support and panel systems to integrate these different elements while maintaining a consistent appearance across the development.
Completed in 2024, the Burchfield Hangars represent a significant addition to Dallas Executive Airport’s infrastructure. We’re proud to have contributed to a project that expands the airport’s capabilities and supports the continued growth of corporate aviation in North Texas.
